Brain Injury Association of Illinois
The Brain Injury Association of Illinois (BIA of IL) is a not-for-profit, statewide membership organization comprised of people with brain injuries, family members, friends and professionals. BIA of IL is part of a network of brain injury associations across the United States, and is an Affiliate of the national Brain Injury Association, Inc. (BIA) which was founded in 1980. The BIA of IL is the only statewide organization in Illinois serving individuals with Acquired Brain Injury, their families and professionals who treat them. We work to assist in developing communication channels between families and professionals in a way that improves relationships and cooperation, enhances teamwork and helps decrease potential issues that might arise . Due to decreased resources, lengths of stay, rehabilitation and care needs, and changing family structures, the BIA of IL feels collaboration is critical for effective service delivery. The Brain Injury Association of Illinois works with local, state and national organizations to consistently lead Illinois in providing quality, affordable and accessible services to people with brain injuries and their families. The BIA of Illinois is dedicated to providing information, resources, advocacy, and support. This is accomplished through: Acting as an information and resource clearinghouse Providing educational programs and an annual educational conference Hosting therapeutic recreational camps for children and adults with brain injury Fostering brain injury prevention and public awareness Promoting participation in statewide support groups Actively participating in legislative advocacy Encouraging research

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Illinois
NAMI Illinois families and members are here to help anyone concerned about mental health and the treatment of mental health disorders. Mental health disorders are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling, and relating. This can result in a substantially diminished capacity for handling, and coping with, the demands of every day life. Mental health disorders can affect persons of any age and occur in any family...they are not caused by bad parenting or evidence of the weakness of character. Mission NAMI Illinois is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with mental health disorders and their families through support, education, and advocacy. Our Goals Advocate at the county, state, and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education, and employment for people with mental health disorders.
Educate the public about mental health disorders. Work to eliminate the stigma of mental health disorders. Advocate for increased funding for research into the causes and treatment of mental health disorders. Our Vision In our envisioned future, mental health disorders will no longer thwart a person’s fulfillment of his or her potential. With early pinpoint diagnoses, interventions, and targeted medications and services there is no pervasive disability. Ultimately, we envision a day when prevention or a cure is found.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Northfield
NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness, is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons and their families affected by mental illness through support, education, advocacy, and research. NAMI CCNS is a grass roots organization and an affiliate of the NAMI National organization. Our affiliate was started in the early 1990’s by a group of family members who were all dealing with the challenges of loved ones with mental illness. They offered a Family-to-Family class and that was the beginning of our affiliate, which now serves over 17 communities in our catchment area. We now offer free of charge not only Family-to-Family but also a variety of support groups, webinars, and programs. People who have taken our classes and attended our support groups constantly comment about their positive experiences and how NAMI has helped them put their lives back together again. In 2007 after a successful gala, we were able to open our first office in Northfield and hire an Executive Director and staff. In 2014 we moved our office to the Turning Point building in Skokie, where we serve hundreds of families dealing with mental illness. As an organization, we use a collaborative model, using each other’s strengths to find ways to fulfill our mission every day.

QPR Institute

Our Mission To save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know. What does QPR mean?- Q
Question - P
Persuade - R
Refer
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour.
