LONG-TERM PARKING
If you're going to leave your car
for a long period of time DO NOT leave your registration card, insurance
card or your remote for your garage door in it. Thieves will
break into your car, drive to the address on the cards and use your remote to
open the garage. If you have a car with a remote control for your garage
built in it and a navigation system you will want to program the
navigation to go to a different address than your own. If they steal
your car they'll look at the navigation system and go to your HOME. If
the HOME address is wrong they can't get in.
CELL PHONES:
When entering names into your mobile
phone don’t disclose the relationship between you and the people in your
contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom,
etc. If a thief steals your purse which
contains your mobile phone they can text your family asking for the “PIN” to
your ATM. Your family, none the wiser,
will think it’s you and give them the PIN. The thief can then go to the local ATM and steal all your money. Whenever your family asks for something important
always call them back and speak with them to find out what’s going on and confirm
the request.
STOLEN WALLET
If your wallet is stolen and
someone calls saying they found it and you need to go back to the store where
you came from – think twice. The
caller may be the actual thief trying to lure you away from your home. They know you’ll leave to pick up your
wallet at the store and they’ll have time to break into your home and burglarize
it. If it was an employee of the store that call ask them for the store
number and call them back. If it’s a
person who “found” it make sure you call the police to watch your home and/or
escort you to pick up the wallet. You
do not want to get yourself in trouble meeting someone you don’t know.
