The Selfhelp Home, a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1950 to serve the residential and health care needs of the Jewish elderly in the Chicago area. Selfhelp has historically served the victims of World War II dislocation. The Home and Organization provide a continuum of care; independent living, assisted living, intermediate and skilled nursing care.
The Selfhelp Home is designed for seniors who enjoy an active lifestyle and the peace of mind knowing that personalized health care services are available "right at home." Residents may choose from spacious studio or one-bedroom apartments, conveniently located near shopping centers, restaurants and a park. We've taken care of all the little chores, like preparing excellent kosher meals and doing laundry so that residents have the time to do the things they enjoy. A variety of cultural programs, educational events, lectures, arts and activities assure that a full social calendar is never a problem.
At the same time, we are well aware that as people age, their needs and priorities change. For seniors who do not require full-time nursing care but need supervision and support with their daily routine, we offer assisted living as an option. Residents are able to remain in their apartment, as we provide the additional assistance they need. We can also arrange to have an escort accompany residents to meals, as well as to and from doctor appointments. These personal assistants are also available to spend time with the residents during the day, assisting with errands and other personal matters. Often, the key to remaining independent is having the support necessary to continue doing the things that are most enjoyable.
At Selfhelp, our goal is to help each resident achieve and maintain the highest possible degree of physical and psychological independence. Through our intermediate, skilled nursing services and restorative program, many of our residents are able to return home and lead active lives. Our health care facility enables us to provide truly comprehensive, one-on-one care for residents of Selfhelp. With a staffing ratio that is higher than most, our reputation for quality care is well-known.
