Be Bold - Control Your Destiny
Welcome to Fearless Aging a new feature column that will address the challenges and opportunities of aging. One thing you will not see in this column is “gloom and doom.” Being an older adult in the 21st century offers almost infinite possibilities. We’re living in an era of amazing technology, medical advancements, high-speed transportation, instant communication and lifespans our grandparents never dreamt of. All this and more is at your fingertips. Together we’ll explore the possibilities and help you achieve the vibrant golden years you desire.
The over 60 populations of our communities are growing at a
rapid pace, increasing demand for not only accessible housing, but activities
for people not content to sit in a chair and watch the world go by. Today we’re
seeing people age 70+ running 5k races, long-distance cycling, skiing, ballroom
dancing, kayaking, golfing and more. It is important that you live life to its maximum
potential, and that includes choosing a safe, active, upbeat environment, rife
with opportunities to be in control of your own destiny, without a fear of
aging.
We will cover a variety of issues including health,
finances, personal safety, computer and Internet usage, estate planning,
housing options and more. Living a Fearless Aging lifestyle requires planning
and communication with children, siblings, your attorney and other key
individuals that are in your life.
This is your column and I want to hear from you. It is
important for me to understand the concerns and questions our readers have
about aging and access to resources throughout the Northwest suburbs. If you have ideas for article topics or
questions you’d like answered here, please email me at Jennifer.Prell@Elderwerks.org
